For centuries, ports connected people, cultures and continents. Today, airports have become some of the great meeting points of contemporary life — vast territories where thousands of human trajectories converge, intersect and disappear. With Uncharted, Antoine Gaussin turns his aerial gaze towards these extraordinary spaces of transit.

Seen from above, the airport is stripped of its familiar function: runways become lines and aircraft become geometric forms. Trajectories become drawings and the familiar suddenly becomes abstract. Every aircraft suggests a departure or an arrival.

Every runway contains the memory of countless journeys. Every movement across the tarmac becomes part of a larger choreography — an invisible network of trajectories connecting distant places and anonymous lives. Gaussin’s strictly aerial perspective transforms the airport into a vast graphic composition.

Every journey leaves a trace. Every trace becomes a map.

His approach is rooted in Hyper-photography, pushing photographic definition beyond the limits of ordinary perception. Multiple high-resolution images are brought together to create works in which extraordinary levels of detail coexist with the immense scale of the environment. The result is a peculiar visual paradox: the farther we move from the scene, the more abstract it becomes.

The closer we look, the more reality reveals itself. The airport becomes a map of movement — a place where human trajectories briefly intersect before dispersing once again across the world. Every line, every texture and every tiny element begins to carry a possible story.

Uncharted is therefore not simply a photographic study of airports, it is an exploration of movement, distance and human connection. A meditation on the contemporary world as a network of passages — immense, precise and constantly in motion. A map of places we leave behind, and places we have yet to reach.
